1983 TANA Award
In 1983, Professor Rao received the first Award in Engineering from the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), with the citation, "A Dedicated Teacher and Outstanding Contributor to Electromagnetics." The award was presented to him on May 28, 1983, at the 4th TANA Conference held in Washington, D.C.
Telugu is the language of the State of Andhra Pradesh, India. There are more than 75 million Telugu-speaking people all over the world. TANA is an organization of the people of Telugu origin living in North America, primarily the United States. Founded in 1973, it is one of the first and largest Indian language organizations in the United States. As a group, people of Telugu origin in the United States are among the topmost academically and professionally.
In 1999, Professor Rao received the Award for Excellence in Education from TANA, for his outstanding contributions to engineering education. With the 1999 TANA Award, Professor Rao became the first Telugu American to have received two awards from TANA.
