Professor Rao

1999 TANA Award



In 1999, Professor Rao received the Award for Excellence in Education from the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), for his outstanding contributions to engineering education. The award was presented to him at the 12th TANA Conference held in Cincinnati, Ohio, during the July 4th weekend.

Telugu is the language of the State of Andhra Pradesh, India. There are more than 75 million Telugu-speaking people all over the world. TANA is an organization of the people of Telugu origin living in North America, primarily the United States. Founded in 1973, it is one of the first and largest Indian language organizations in the United States. As a group, people of Telugu origin in the United States are among the topmost academically and professionally.

TANA started the awards program in 1983, at which time the first Engineering Award was given to Professor Rao at their Fourth Conference in Washington, D.C. With the 1999 TANA Award, Professor Rao became the first Telugu American to have received two awards from TANA.
